How old is to old
I know all dogs are different, but what have you all found to the the age when they start to loose the hunting drive? Also at what age do they stop being a good stud dog.

hey Tim I am still new to the basset's but from my experience with other hunting breeds, if they have the desire they never loose it, they may loose the ability to hunt as hard as they want, I am currently hunting 2 seven year olds that have more desire to hunt than I would have imagined possible. I have hunted coon hounds at 14 that didnt know the word stop, so i guess it is all a matter of opinion of what you expect out of the dogs, and if you hunt simply to kill rabbits or to enjoy being out and watching the dogs do what they are trained to do

I agree, if the dog is physically able and has the desire to hunt, why would you stop hunting them at any age? I enjoy watching my hounds run and will let them run until I think they don't enjoy it themselves or just can't do it any more.
