Michigan Hunt Information
Here is what you all have been waiting for - A SUMMER HUNT!!! The hunts on Saturday June 21 and 22 are hosted by the Southwest Michigan Basset Club.
If you checked the hunt schedule you will find that the entry deadline is 7 am. That is incorrect. The deadline both days is 6:00 am
The deadline both days is 6:00 am. We will try to get the first casts in the field by 6:15 am.
We are on EST (Daylight savings)
The hunts will be held at my house; 29566 60th Ave, Lawton, Mich 49765
Directions: Coming from the west on I-94 get off at exit 60 (Paw Paw exit) and turn right (south) and you are now on M 40. Go approximately 2 miles and turn left on 62nd Ave. (at the bottom of the hill) Continue about one mile to 30th St. Turn left on 30th about 1/2 mile and you will take a 90 degree turn to the right and this is 60th Ave. We are the 3rd house on the north side of the road. There will be AHBA signs at all turns.
Coming from the east on I-94 get off at exit 66 (Mattawan) and turn left (south) and go through the little town of Mattawan, About 1/2 mile south of Mattawan you will come to a 4 way intersection (Robinson St) and turn right (west). As you travel west the road becomes 60th Ave. You will continue west under the railroad bridge and through 2 stop signs. From the 2nd stop (CR 657) you are about 1 mile from our driveway. You will find AHBA signs at the turns.
If you get lost our phone number is 269-624-6559.
SUMMER SPECIALS: Enter 3 hounds in the field at $10.00 each and all others are FREE.
We will have breakfast and lunch each day (donation only)
We have a 10 acre enclosure with several cottontails. We will run all open casts in this enclosure. I doubt if we will have a deer run in the pen but if we do the dogs won't go far unless they can jump a 4 foot fence. We have at least 4 other running sites near our house.
Friday night you may want to go into Paw Paw for supper. They have several restaurants.
Lodging Friday and Saturday nights: Our basement is cool but not air conditioned. Bring your cot. Ben and Sam always have first pick for the foldout bed. (Also Leo)
Motels in Paw Paw: (These are just off the highway at exit 60) Super 8: 269-657-1111 (or 800-800-8000): Econolodge 269-657-2578: Comfort Inn 269-655-0303
If you have a tent or a camper you can put it up in the front yard - electric hookup.
This will be a special hunt, especially for people who are trying to keep their hounds in the TOP TEN in each class in the HOY. I am estimating we will have at least 15 opens, 5 champs and 6 grands. This is a conservative estimate.
We will have a bench show on Saturday - but not on Sunday. Bench fee - ZERO.
If you have questions give me a call.

Getting old is not for sissies. Dumb mistakes come first - and then other things. Our zip code is 49065 not 49765.
