New Basset Owner
I own a Basset Female about 8 months of age, or should I say she owns me. I used to raise beagles, but they are now too fast for me. Being disabled limits my ability to walk too fast etc.. and the Basset is a perfect fit as to it's slower gait.
My basset is tri-color and is very good at tracking etc.. from 12 weeks of age should could follow the trail of a scent soaked hanky and find it buried in debris about 100 yards away.
I am interested in feild trials and wonder if there are any in the Central PA area?
Also, my dog is UKCI Regestered not AKC, does this matter? I heard about this web site from a freind that ran across it researching bassets. I have contacted the ABHA association about their trials and regestration etc...
Any Pointers?

Hi bigeagle
Welcome to the board. It's always good to see new people.
To expand on Tim's answer, your dog doesn't need to be registered with any other organization except the AHBA. You can register your dog by mailing me a registeration form that can be printed from here,
www.bassetnet.com/forms_pg.php with an $8.00 fee or just bring it to the first hunt you attend.
You can also find a list of scheduled hunts on our website
www.bassetnet.com
Welcome aboard I hope to see you at one of them!
welcome aboard look foward to meeting you in the future
Looking forward to seeing you at the trials! I was a newbie last year or so and the AHBA is a great supportive organization for new people and will make you feel welcomed so come out to the trials and I promise you will have a good time.
