Ruth Paule
I heard that Ruth Paule passed away. Some of you may remember her from the Saltville, VA hunts, or her big male Henry( Branscombe Pavarotti ). She was one of the very early promoters of hunting bassets. Her health forced her to stop running hounds several years ago, but she still followed the AHBA and if possible, had somebody run her hounds.
Ruth Paule was a fine lady whose enthusiasim for Bassets and hunting them knew no bounds. She bred some fine hounds. Branscombe George Gershwin (last years high point and Hound of the Year, Champion Class) was among them. For those who knew her,her like will not be seen again. She's greatly missed..........
Sorry to hear of here Ruth's passing she did love hear hounds and a good rabbit chase. She was a nice lady the couple of times I got to meet here. My regards to hear friends and family
Ruth was a great old girl!! A fond memory I have of her I will share! While at the AHBA world hunt at three rivers in Indiana...Ruth was a tough one,, if she needed assistance she would ask..Most of us being the gentleman we are, seeing Ruth to be a bit elderly..She was already into her 80's at this point..At the sight of the first cast drop Someone offered to help her out of the vehicle...after a quick tounge lashing about if she wasn't able to be out there she wouldn,t be!!! The person and you know who you are!!!! said WOW!! Wasn,t me...as I was fore warned of this!!! As we entered the field the dogs struck and were running...... Ruth was a bit behind us..I saw the race was heading toward her direction. than I said if she went to the right some,,along the ridge the chase will probably go right by her!!! She made her way over and took post...Within a minute or so the hounds were driving right at her..She was on the edge of that ridge all by her lonesome and than I watched her raise her cane as tough it was a gun and followed the fleeing rabbit...I walked over and said I guess you saw the rabbit she said "I think I could Have had that one!!!" I'll never forget that!!!!...
I am sorry to hear of Ruths passing. Although I did not know her well I purchased a hound from her, Branscombe George Gershwin, and stayed in touch with her by email. She continued to follow the AHBA and was well aware of whos hounds were doing what. God Bless You Ruth!
