Tracking Systems --------- What's everyone using?I have an Icom R-10 set up on an yagi with a booster. I am able to track all frequency ranges.
I like the Rats collars but also have some Tracker Strike collars and Midway Telemetry collars (comparable to the Rats use and style).
Here is my set-up:

I use a WMI TRX 10s on a yagi, with WMI 2000 hour collars,
have had good luck with this set up.
Collars also have tree switch since i use them on my bassets and my coonhounds both.
How much range does the booster add to your system compared to running stock?

Day and night................I think the Icom is pretty useless without the booster. The booster has a gain on the back to increase the range out when locating. That helps if you get in settings like mountains.
If you use it like a Maxima as handheld only with the rubber duck, you won't be finding your dogs. If they real close, then you can.
But you know running coondogs, you need a system that can reach out.
I have been using this Icom going on 3 years now and been real happy with it. It's not that real hard to use as I hear some complaints that they are difficult to figure out.

I have heard mixed results on boosters, thats why i asked, I may have to lookinto putting one on my wildlife I figure every little bit helps

As long as the tracking system has BNC connectors, you can hook one up to it to help in range when pinpointing.
Here is the one to use. It is a GRE SUPER AMPLIFIER.

I've had great success with WMI equipment also, For the novice Wildlife Materials Inc. Use them on coondogs ,beardogs, foxhounds and my bassets...Never had to send anything back for repair yet....Believe me they get used real hard here!!!Been using WMI equipment for 12 yrs now...Great stuff!!!!

We followed Frank's advice about 7 years ago and do agree that the WMI equipment has served us well. The only time it doesn't work is when I leave the collars in the truck.

I couldnt agree more, i bought my WMI system in 1992, and besides replacing batteries the only trouble i have ever had was a switch went out in one of my collars last year, i think that after that much time has passed and the abuse they take, it probably deserved to stop working

Hey Buckshot, does the Garmin seem like it will be easily cought on fences and stuff with the way it is mounted on the dogs back? from what i have saw of them it appears it would possibly be a problem due to being up so high, and having a rigid antanae.
Night Shift Kennels- 11-16-2007
whoops you have the new "Tracker", i need to read one post at a time apparently, i thought you bought the new Garmon

There is a mini antenna that an be bought extra for around $30 each.
The big complaint is that briars are enough to break the antenna off so I would imagine fences could do it as well.
I don't think I have seen anyone post about using the mini antenna yet.
